A semi crash Thursday night inside Eads closed Highway 287/40 near the roadside park and Eads Auto Supply store for several hours.

According to the Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office, the crash resulted in a hazardous materials incident when an unspecified amount of diesel spilled on the roadway and required cleanup.

Kiowa County emergency responders blocked the area and rerouted traffic to conduct an investigation and allow crews to safely remove spilled fuel.

The highway was reopened Friday morning shortly before 1:00 a.m.
