Shots fired during drug investigation in Limon lead to pursuit, arrests

A narcotics investigation in Limon turned into a high-speed chase and officer-involved shooting Friday afternoon according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office via a media release from the Colorado State Patrol.

At approximately 1:00 p.m., officers from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office and Limon Police Department attempted to contact three suspects in a vehicle at the Loaf-N-Jug convenience store on Main Street. The driver allegedly attempted to flee, reversing into a patrol car before driving towards a deputy standing near their vehicle. An officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect’s vehicle.

One suspect had already been detained by law enforcement at the scene. The remaining two suspects fled in the vehicle, colliding with another vehicle as they left the parking lot.

A pursuit ensued westbound on Main Street near the intersection with Highway 24 when a Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy performed a maneuvre to disable the suspect vehicle. The passenger surrendered without incident. However, the driver refused to comply and brandished a handgun. A deputy deployed a taser, and another officer subsequently disarmed and arrested the driver.

The suspect was treated on scene for injuries sustained during the incident and transported to a local hospital where they remain under medical care.

The 23rd Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is leading the criminal investigation related to the initial narcotics probe.
