A break in temperatures begins to fade this week in southeast Colorado, including Cheyenne and Kiowa counties.

Sunday’s forecast calls for highs in the upper 70s, along with the return of scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms that have been common over the past few days. A few storms may reach the severe category, producing hail up to one inch in diameter along with wind gusts to 60 miles per hour in weather Kiowa and Cheyenne counties. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to the upper 50s.

Temperatures begin to climb to start the work week, with low to mid-80s expected during the day Monday, falling to the mid- to upper 50s at night. Thunderstorms remain a possibility later in the day, though slightly less likely than recent afternoons. Where storms do form, potential for hail and strong wind gusts returns.

Highs continue to increase Tuesday, reaching the mid- to upper 80s, returning to the mid-50s overnight. Chances for late day thunderstorms continue to fall, though a few storms are possible, especially for eastern Cheyenne County.

Maximum temperatures drop slightly Wednesday to the low to mid-80s, cooling to the upper 50s at night. Rain is unlikely.

For Thursday and Friday, highs in the low 90s are in the forecast, falling to the upper 50s to low 60s overnight. Though rain is not expected in central and western Kiowa County, some storms may form in the eastern portion of the county, as well as eastern Cheyenne county.
