The Colorado Conservation Tillage Association has announced that Jay Fuhrer, Dallas Mount, and Zach Wright will be featured as keynote speakers for the 2022 High Plains No-Till Conference February 1-2 at the Burlington Community and Education Center in Burlington, Colorado. 

Headlining the event will be Jay Fuhrer, a long-time conservationist with a career of taking care of the soil. While employed with the Natural Resources Conservation Service from 1980-2020 in Bismarck, North Dakota, Fuhrer particularly enjoyed collaborating directly with producers in the field. He has also served as a soil health educator through farm visits, tours, and workshops across the globe. Currently, Fuhrer spends his time working with Menoken Farm, a conservation demonstration farm where soil health principles are applied while monitoring plants, animals, and soils. 

The second keynote for the High Plains No-Till Conference will be the owner of Ranch Management Consultants and the Ranching for Profit School, Dallas Mount. Mount has worked with hundreds of ranchers across the United States, Canada, and Australia to position their business for economic profit and ecological health. His Ranching for Profit School is also focused on creating profitable businesses with healthy land and happy families. Mount will contribute to the High Plains No-Till Conference with his expertise in keys to profitability and estate planning.

Zach Wright from the Living Soil Compost Lab will also appear in Burlington as a keynote speaker this February. An agricultural activist for clean soil, Wright has experience serving as a private consultant, lab director, and lead educator with both the Applied Soil Ecology Lab and the Soil Life Consultancy firm. He has conducted seminars related to composting, compost tea brewing, and microscopy in both the United States and abroad. This experience combined with Wright’s ecological insight has transformed into what Wright refers to as “unconventional agronomy.”

The two-day event will also showcase more than 40 breakout sessions on topics such as reducing inputs, soil biology, relay cropping, diversifying crop rotations, weed management, wheat stem sawfly, soil testing, weather, and market outlooks. 

“We’re excited to work with so many great speakers for the 2022 conference,” said CCTA Coordinator Joni Mitchek. “This will be an excellent opportunity to hear from a range of experts on issues that ag producers are currently facing in the High Plains region.”
