Thoughts, Things, and Trivia by Jack – December 19, 2023
The Wednesday meals at Kit Carson Senior Center have been canceled until repairs are completed to the north wall. Got a decent snowfall this past week, no wind - no blizzarding and the snow is melting – no white Christmas.
The end of the year is almost here, time to wrap things for 2023 and get ready for 2024. My favorite meal for New Year’s Day is black-eyed peas with ham hocks and greens, cornbread, buttermilk pie and a glass of fresh shine for reminiscing.
A little bit of trivia, when I was working on projects off-continent, one of my responsibilities was to evaluate the compatibility of the project with the local culture. The evaluation would begin at the pre-bid meeting and ramp up after the award of the contract. Most of the projects were in socialist countries, where the populace has very little input in the affairs of the country. Once the contract was awarded and the payoffs were done, it was the contractor’s responsibility to complete the work with minimal incidents. One of the senior managers said that country boys were preferred as evaluators because they were at ease with a rural environment and were able to establish a means of communication with the indigenous populace.
More trivia, most of the trucks on the road around the world are cabovers where the operator sits in front the engine and snubbed nose where the operator sits beside the engine, only in North America and Australia the trucks are long nosed where the operator sits behind the engine.
Climate Change – Planet Earth is a continuing evolving entity with changes every cycle, one can say Earth is a living organism. Academics have been working for centuries to define changes and the reasons for the changes, to date, no verifiable catastrophic changes were caused by humankind. Then the politicians became experts in the evolution of the planet, blaming humankind for global warming. Earth is constantly emitting so-called greenhouse gases through outgassing (volcanic eruptions) and soil passive gas emissions. To date, academics have not determined whether mankind is the cause of global warming.
