While Friday’s high temperatures across southeast Colorado are expected to reach close to the 50s, don’t be fooled – arctic air arrives late in the day, dropping temperatures below freezing until at least Wednesday morning.

Snow is also expected with the first wave of cold air Friday night, with 1-4 inches expected across much of the southeast, and greater amounts closer to Interstate 25. The light, fluffy snow can create hazardous driving conditions, and flash freezing is possible Friday night, leaving a light glaze of ice on roads.

CHART - Wind Chill

A winter weather advisory will be in effect for much of eastern Colorado and portions of the northern mountains from Friday evening to Saturday due to potential travel impacts and slick roads.

A second round of snow is possible Sunday night into Monday as more arctic air flows into the area.

Wind chill values as low as -25 are expected over the four-day period, with the coldest temperatures predicted for Tuesday. High temperatures Saturday and Sunday are forecast to only reach the low 20s, falling to single digits both nights. Monday’s highs will be in the mid-teens before falling below zero over night.

Temperatures begin to rebound Tuesday, though they remain below freezing. Mid- to upper 20s are possible, with overnight lows returning to single digits.

Wednesday brings a return of relative warmth as temperatures rise to the upper 30s to low 40s, falling back to the single digits Wednesday night.
