Be Prepared - Flood and Wildfire Safety Week
The National Weather Service wants everyone in the United States to be part of a Weather-Ready Nation. Colorado has more than its fair share of floods, flash floods, and wildfires. You should be weather-alert and weather-ready, knowing how to stay safe when floods and wildfires affect your area.

“Kids got the kites up this morning down at the schoolyard,” Dud said, slipping into his chair and flipping his coffee mug to the upright and fillable position in one smooth move.
Doc nodded and spread jam on his toast. He likes grape.
“Any special shapes this year?”
“Didn’t see any,” Dud said. “Same old diamond shapes, mostly.”
“Now back when I was a kid,” Herb chimed in, “we had box kites, too. Sometimes…”
Doc grinned. “Never could make one of them. Too complicated. Just got those diamond ones, because they came almost ready to fly.”

In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt came to Colorado for a three-week bear hunting trip. Perhaps inspired by Colorado’s beauty, that same year, he created the U.S. Forest Service to manage lands for public use. In 1906, he signed the Antiquities Act, which has since led to the designation of over 100 national monuments. These were some of the first and most important steps to recognize our national treasures such as our mountains, rivers, forests, and prairies.

The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) recently released its Colorado Water Supply Outlook Report, based on March 1 figures, which marks the third comprehensive, update for Colorado since the "2017 water year" began on Oct. 1.
According to the report, statewide snowpack levels had decreased some since the Feb. 1 report, but remained above the historic average statewide.

A pair of 4-H programs recently received a boost to their respective endeavors, thanks to grant dollars from the Colorado Corn Administrative Committee.
The two winners in this year's Colorado Corn 4-H Grant Program were:
* The CSU Extension Pueblo County Office's BeeWise program ($2,500)
This effort will offer 12 workshops for more than 100 participants, who will learn the techniques of beekeeping and tracking bee-colony health.
