“Let us come before Him with Thanksgiving…for the Lord is the great God.” Psalm 95: 2-3

Eads Senior Citizens had a packed room of 44 diners for their Thanksgiving dinner last Thursday. Thanks to Marsha (Schmitt) Mousel and daughter, Pam, who donated turkeys as her father, Joe Schmitt, used to do. We had a wonderful dinner with many side dishes and desserts. Gail Voss, our director, roasted turkeys and dressing, and her son-in-law, Darrel Stolzenberger, smoked a turkey for us. We were pleased to have several guests come and, of course, glad that Eunice Weber came to take blood pressures. President Alice Glover announced that the Sage meal will be December 5, followed by the brunch December 6, and the noon meal December 19.

Over at Haswell, Wanda Lessenden, with Virgil helping to carry roasted turkey and other foods into the Haswell center, the Haswell citizens had a pleasant evening pre-Thanksgiving dinner. Wanda and Pam Lessenden packed some tasty foods which Frankie Stoker has been enjoying since Rosemary is in a Colorado Springs hospital with a broken bone.

The Eads schools hosted a Thanksgiving dinner last Thursday for senior citizens to partake delicious turkey, dressing, cranberry salad and other entrees. The cooks, Konda Howard and Charlie Vasquez, worked hard on this annual meal. The greeters and servers were the eighth graders who were “dressed up” attractively and handsomely. Their sponsor is Mrs. Stephanie Bohlander. Mrs. Polly Guyrman’s first grade students entertained with poems and songs.

Sunday, the annual Pre-Thanksgiving community dinner was hosted by the Weisbrod Hospital District. The dietary staff, under the leadership of department head Ginger (Larrew) McPherson, prepared large amounts of turkeys, potatoes, gravy, and rolls. Townspeople brought side dishes and desserts for the residents, their families and friends to enjoy around family group tables. Families could have their photos taken in a fall setting by Braylynn (Peck) Eder. Phil Pollreis entertained with singing and guitar music. Pastor Spencer Black gave the invocation before the sumptuous meal.

One of the best things about the third Friday of the month is that Dawna (Howard) Weirich is the volunteer who delivers the “meals on wheels.” Their son, Daniel (“Boone”), is a history teacher for middle and high school as well as a physical education teacher for Kindergarten and first graders at the Idalia School.

Rick Spady and Dwight Lessenden, who had November birthdays, joined a bunch of Spady relatives at the popular Cheraw restaurant Friday for their monthly “birthday dinner.”

Relatives of Rosemary Stoker are anticipating her being moved to the Weisbrod swing bed care after a bad fall in her home.

November 24 is Small Business Saturday around the nation. Traditionally places of business offer some sales or discounts or samples. We really had a good time last year visiting businesses around Eads. Let’s encourage and thank these industrious people who have businesses in our little town. There are some businesses that have had “trouble” staying open because some people do not pay their bills. How dishonorable to not be true to your word to pay your bills.

Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary members Loretta Seibel, Alice Glover, LaVerle Kelley, and I went to the Extended Care Unit Tuesday evening to play “Bunco” with some of the residents. People of all ages like to win money. There were three ladies at the ECU who shared the same birthday November 13. Shirley Nelson had her party November 9 when she returned from the eye doctor in Colorado Springs. Lougene Jacobs celebrated her day at the home of Brandon and Angela Hoffman with her Eads family relatives. Marie Ellenberger was delighted at her 84th birthday party when son, Eric and Shannon Ellenberger, came to the ECU for her party of cake and ice cream.

Nicole and Chris Kepler were hosted with a baby shower for their second daughter at the Prairie Pines Sunday afternoon. Best wishes to their family.

There was a good turnout of people to play Bingo in Haswell November 4. They do this sometimes to earn money to keep the lights and plumbing on.

What a wonderful photo of teenagers with a big stack of shoe boxes that have been filled by families for Samaritan Purse’s Operation Christmas Child project. Ashley and Kennan Gooden of the Praise Community Church took on this great and time consuming project for this year. I have had the joy to fill these boxes for years. I read that the children all over the world, and in this nation, who are in a natural disaster or live in poverty may receive one of these gift boxes.

The Eads Future Farmers of America chapter will host a supper Thursday, November 29, and the Hired Hand Auction, which is usually in the spring. There will be an auction of items made by the students also.

The Weisbrod Holiday Bazaar organized by Linda Trosper and the Auxiliary was a real hit with lots of people last Saturday.  More shoppers than usual came to view a number of new vendors plus several from out of state.  Local merchants and individuals and vendors donated coveted prizes in the Drawing.  Charlie and Mary Vasquez nearly ran out of their good Mexican foods.  Lots of warm visiting carried on as people stopped to greet friends.  At noon shoppers sang “Happy Birthday” to 93-year-old Don McCoin and later to say “Happy Birthday” to Mike Arth.
