“Take control of what I say, O Lord and guard my lips.” Psalm 141:3  Abraham Lincoln said, “Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.”

Bill Woelk’s sister flew into the Colorado Springs airport last week.  Bill and Charlotte took her with them to Horace, Kansas, to the Hunt Club where the Woelk family has their annual reunion. This is the time of the year when many families are having get togethers.  That is such an important thing to do.

Congratulations to Kevin Davis and his bride, Chelsea Mick Hough formerly of Wiley who were married in the mountains at Cuchara June 3rd.  Tom and Cathy Davis hosted a reception at their home in Eads for them Saturday afternoon June 11th.  Best wishes to the couple as they begin their lives together on their ranch south of Chivington.  Their sons Adyn and Madyx will be elementary students in Eads.

Many of my family members (Lessenden, Buck, Stoker, Dixon) drove to Manhattan,

Kansas, to attend the wedding of Mychal Hirsch to Scott Lorrette.  Mychal is the granddaughter of Virgyln Griswould and daughter of Kristi and Phil Hirsch.

Amy Barton and her infant son,  Brayson, were hosted with a large baby shower at the home of Larry and Carla Gifford in Eads.  Seven hostesses served cake and other refreshments to the guests who came from several different communities.  Amy was blessed by her church community and friends.

Janelle Crow and son, Trevor Randel, Tracy and Mariah Smith, Dawn and Alicia James, Sue Fox all of Eads and Sue’s sisters from Durango, and Florida enjoyed 11 days touring England and France.  They report having a marvelous time!

Dylan Dixon had a good time when he played in the Colorado All Star 6-8 Man Football game in Sterling a week ago.  He said it was good to play with fellow competitors to just have a great time playing with the South Team.  One of his coaches was Dain Eaton of Holly.

Kim Peck of North Dakota visited his mother, Gloria Peck and family around Eads.  Then he and Gloria visited his three daughters in New Mexico and Texas.  They attended a Kindergarten and college graduation and BBQ while on their trip.

Charlie Vasquez has a tall blue “Open” Flag in front of the Main Scoop Ice Cream store on Monday through Wednesdays at 7:00 am to 2:00 pm for breakfast and lunch menus. Business at the ice cream store is booming too.

Welcome back to Kourtney Richards from Idaho to Eads.  Her three children will attend elementary school in Eads this fall.  She is a registered nurse connected with Weisbrod.

A number of Eads FFA (Future Farmers of America) members attended the 88th State FFA Convention in Sterling last week.   Several youths garnered outstanding awards.  They were sponsored by their current advisor, Mr. Will Nelson, and new teacher, Ms. Lindsey Todd.

Glenda Stoker put posters about town inviting folk to the 100rth Anniversary of the Haswell Community Church celebration on Sunday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. with lunch to follow at the Community Building.  If readers plan to go, it would be helpful if they would call Wanda at  691-5403 to RSVP.

The First Christian Church of Eads hosted an afternoon Farwell Reception for their dear Pastor Delbert Beard and his wife, Margie.  The Beards are moving to Lawton, Oklahoma, to be near their son’s family so if he is deployed overseas that Delbert and Margie can be supportive of his wife and children.  Pastor Beard has preached for 30 years and is looking forward to continuing in the EMT and ambulance driving profession.

On Thursdays the “Smokin’ Willie’s” Food Bar-B-Que truck is parked near the Veteran’s Memorial Flag in the Eads Roadside Park.  They offer a variety of meats and salads in small containers so one can take it home or have a picnic.  Very good tasting!

Gail Voss and Ryan Trosper will be giving the message at the Eads and Haswell United Methodist Churches the next two weeks.

The Primary Ballots have been mailed, so do vote quickly.  Please don’t miss this chance to vote.  Kimmi Lewis says that after you vote, candidates won’t send you anymore political letters because this saves them money.

Lola Igou has been gone to the Convention of her church family.  I remember that my parents, Virgil and Ida, went to one of their Conventions in New Mexico where they really enjoyed the teachings and bountiful foods.  One of Virgil’s cousins dedicated her whole life to being a missionary in Mexico, South America, and the USA.

The “Chamber After Hours” on June 20th that I may have mentioned previously, won’t be happening because the man who was to be the speaker won’t be able to come.

Thank you, to Linda Trosper and anyone else who would like to leave clothing,  bedding or linens on my porch at 305 E. 13th Street for Haiti.  Brooke Crawford of Kit Carson has inspired our church family and Vacation Bible School to donate money and goods to ship to Orphan Grain Train to be shipped in metal containers to Hatii.   Brooke has gone on a Mission Trip the last two years with her youth group, Encounter, from Fort Hays University in Kansas.

I am so glad I live in a small town so I can just drive two blocks down the street to the Doctor and to have an X-ray and blood test.  We are so blessed to have our fine Hospital in Eads and an ECU (nursing home), and a lovely Retirement Home, (assisted living) in our town.

The local swimming pool is open in the afternoons and the baseball and soft ball parks are busy with league games being played in afternoons and evenings.  People who desire other types of recreation could visit the Museum on Maine Street or go to a movie on Fridays through Sundays, or visit the county Library in the Court House.  Some people like to fish out at Jackson’s Pond or the lakes south of town or Blue Lake south of Haswell.  I see many more boats and larger yacht -like boats around town too.   Bicycling or walking in small groups is another avenue of fun and getting exercise that I see people enjoying.   Consider sharing your time with others by visiting people in the nursing home or assisted living.  I have observed how pleased and appreciative residents are to see people from “the outside world”.  Please think about ways you can share your time and talents for the sake of other people.

Oh, and I have an opportunity for you readers, I am helping organize a Fashion Show on Friday, June 24 at 2:00p.m. in the Weisbrod ECU……we need models.  Please call me if you have an “outfit or costume or historical dress or wedding dress” you would model for us.  Doris 438-5665

If readers have “news” they would like printed, do feel welcome to call me at that phone number, too.
