“The Lord your God will bless you in all your harvest and in all the work of your hands, and your joy will be complete.”  Deuteronomy 16:15….let us all have an attitude of gratitude.

Linda Trosper did it again!  For over 36 years she has been an organizer and a diligent worker for the sake of the Weisbrod Hospital and Nursing Home (ECU) Bazaar.  The Christmas Bazaar was a real success this year.  This is the Hospital Auxiliary’s only fundraiser which helps us buy gifts and other appointments to make the facility a more pleasant place to be.  We had two men vendors, John Krentz and Wally Mosher, with their fine wood crafted items as well as many ladies from various communities who had such lovely foods, hand crafted items, and clothing.  Businesses and vendors were so generous to give such beautiful items for our drawing.   We are grateful to Charlie and Mary Vasquez and family who offered great sandwiches and other foods for the shoppers and vendors.  Thank you, everyone, very much from the Auxiliary.

A number of county leaders, community leaders, Chamber of Commerce members, and citizens from the community went to the new Love’s store for the Grand Opening and ribbon cutting.  Chamber President, Dennis Pearson, and Jan Richards, KCEDF Director, provided the red and gold ribbon and scissors for the event.  Manager, Dave Grandy, told the folk some of the history of the Oklahoma Love family who own over 420 similar stores.    At the Eads Store they have 56 parking spaces for trucks and Grandy said that most nights they are full!  The store and Subway sandwich shop is opened 24 hours a day.  When I have been there I have met employees from Eads, Kit Carson, Lamar, and Wiley.  Mr. Grandy said this is the friendliest town he and Cora have ever lived in and that the construction workers liked being here during their work also.

We are excited for the first “Small Business Saturday” this week, November 26!

The organizers are Mrs. Shannon Ellenberger’s students in business classes and FBLA.  They have been working for three months with Jan Richards of the KCEDF and the 13 participating business who offer lots of specials.  So join us as we go from business to business in Eads to see what we can buy or taste or view!  Shop Local!!!

The Eads and the Haswell senior citizens enjoyed their Pre-Thanksgiving dinners last Wednesday at their Centers.  In Eads, Vice President Alice Glover, thanked Marsha and Pam Mousel who donated the turkeys for the Eads meal.  Wanda Lessenden prepared a bounteous turkey meal for the Haswell people.   Alice, LaVerle Kelley, and Wanda Lessenden attended to AAA meeting the day before where they learned new facts about changes in health insurance.  They encouraged seniors to call the La Junta office to get advice about the best insurance plans to buy.

Konda Howard, Dreama Buck, Ty Williams, and Brenda Rameriz are local ladies who shared their awesome photos of the incredible sight of the “super moon” which was so “closer” to the earth.  This phenomenon will not happen again until 2034!   Konda’s photo of the moon as it was rising between cross two and three near the Christian Church at the end of Maine Street where the church maintains three all crosses.

We welcome Jerry and Bonnie (Mays) Rogers to Eads who bought a home on 15th Street.  Her sister, Shirley White of Kit Carson and Eads friends is glad they chose to move here from Liberal, Kansas.

We extend our sympathy to Carla and Larry Gifford of Eads who mourn the death of Carla’s mother, Irma Krehbiel, who has lived in Eads a few years.  She was a delightful spunky, 96 year old lady who loved the Lord, hats, singing, and socializing.

This is the traditional week-end for the Native Americans to meet out at the Sand Creek National Park north of Chivington.  On Thanksgiving Day, they will run into Eads (about three hours) where workers will have a dinner prepared about 4:00 or 5:00 p.m. The visitors stay in Eads and then the next day they resume their “healing run” to Denver where they run to the steps of the Colorado State Capitol.   Watch the evening news later in the week to see photos of the families being greeted by Governor Hickenlooper.

On Tuesday, November 29th at 5:00 p.m. there will be a “Free” Sand Creek presentation in the Crow Luther Theatre.  These are always so interesting; I highly recommend them to you.

The Chamber of Commerce and the KCEDF group are awarding prizes to the outstanding decorated hopes and businesses in Eads.   I heard that Rick and Bonnie Morgan have their decorations up!  The time is short!  You know, Santa is coming to town, Tuesday December 6th.  He will be at the Fire House for the Chili Supper.

The next spectacular event will be the “Christmas Show” at the Plains Theatre on Sunday, December 6th at 6:00 p.m. featuring recording artist, Barry Ward, and a cowboy poet, John , from Cortez and the band, “Answering the Call”  organized by Jamie Crockett.   It will be so nice to enter the theatre, be handed a boxed meal made by Charlie and Mary Vasquez and following the show people can linger around the fire pit in front of the theatre or go on the wagon rides around town to see the decorated homes and stores.   Joyce Berry encourages people to drive by the Road Side Park to see the pretty wooden cut-out Christmas theme figures.  Roland Sorenson also put up the snowman family and angels in the Horse Shoe Park on Maine St.  It is reported that sometimes travelers stop to have their photo taken by the displays.  We thank Cardon and Joyce Berry for all the years they organize volunteers to set up these displays.

The “Grandparent Thanksgiving Dinner” at school cafeteria was terrific!  We were hosted and served by handsomely dressed eighth grade boys and girls who were guided by Mrs. Stephanie Bohlander.  In the Kitchen, Konda Howard, Charlie Vasquez, and Lori Richardson plated the foods they had prepared.  Mrs. Charlene Gifford’s Third Grade students introduced themselves and performed several animated choral readings and songs on the thanksgiving theme.  We noticed that so many last names were unfamiliar to us which may mean that more people are moving to Eads or transporting their children to Eads Schools.

Pastors Tony Jensen, Christine Richardson, Russell Parker, Galen Burrnet and Mark Imel hosted the Community Thanksgiving service Sunday evening at the Praise Community Church.   Pastor Imel gave the message after the congregation sang several hymns and choruses to the Lord.

There was a large group of family and friends came to the first Christian Church in Eads Saturday afternoon and Sunday to celebrate with Donna (Max) Owens on her 70th Birthday.  Their daughter, Sebrina, prepared many foods for the guests to enjoy with the large cake.  Her brothers Brad and Max Jr., gladly helped with dishes and hosting.
