“A soft answer turns away wrath, harsh words stir up anger.” Proverbs 15: 1

People have been asking me, “How was your trip to Denver?” Then I burst into a joyful description of the fabulous wedding of my neighbor-friend, Jose Ramos, who married Julianna Tidwell at a beautiful golf course venue on Buffalo Creek somewhere in the Littleton area. (I haven’t been to the city for many years!) Julianna’s parents live in Evergreen. When Liz Hulteen and I arrived, we waited in the large dining room in a huge barn while it was decided if the wedding ceremony would continue in the barn, an enclosed reception area where the drinks and photos were taken, or outside. At the last minute, white umbrellas were handed to the guests as the mist fell. Then, as Jose and the groom’s party walked down the winding path, it started to snow – huge flakes! After a while, five young girls dressed in sage green dresses with satin bodices preceded the four brides maids, who wore pencil thin sage green dresses, carrying a bouquet. Then the bride, Julianna, came out of the pretty white house to meet the groom though more snow flakes. The pastor talked about how and where the met, and blessed them after the bridal couple spoke loving words and vows to each other. After many professional photos were taken in the adjoining reception hall for appetizers and cocktails, they came to the dining area that was so lovely with twinkling lights, wonderful music, and dancing. I was surprised and pleased to be considered part of Jose’s family, so I was able to visit with Juana’s six children and their spouses and children. They have always been a joy to me. Juliann’s mother is the former Violet Marble, so it was especially gratifying to see her cousins of the Blekeberg family from north of Kit Carson, plus four of Violet’s classmates that included Liz “Mary” Hulteen and Theresa Knoblock. The elegant meal was served with choices of four desserts, gifts to take home, lottery tickets, Polaroid photos, and other treats. It was definitely a wedding to remember. I will always wonder how Julianna could look so pretty and act so well when she was in a strapless gown, and her heavy bridal train left a wide path of wetness an hour after she came into the barn hall to her long bridal banquet table in front of a backdrop of many draped sparkling lights.

Doctor Rachel Davis, MD, has received honors and a plaque from the Colorado Psychiatric Society for her outstanding achievements. Rachel was surprised and honored. Rachel is a graduate of Eads High School, and is the eldest daughter of Lawyer Gary and Cheryl Davis of Eads. Rachel enjoys traveling, and also is a guest speaker and panelist at conventions.

Congratulations also to Eads High School graduate Jonah Schofield, who was honored as an Outstanding Employee at Keefe Memorial Hospital for his excellence as a caretaker and work in the medical field. He was such a favorite employee of many patrons who shopped at Kiowa Pharmacy.

The definite highlight last week, particularly for teenagers, their parents, and grandparents, was the Eads High School prom, and well as the prom for Kit Carson students at their school. People could watch the Grand March at the Plains Theatre. What a wonderful service the Crow-Luther Cultural Events Center board does for the interested community. Since the prom has been held in the senior center, there is not room for the public to view the lovely girls and the young men in their attire as we used to in the school gym. The Prom King was Keenan Smith, and the Prom Queen was Maddison McDowell. The other seniors in the Royal Court were Nathan Lowe, Breanna Wilson, and Katie Johnson. Since it was getting stormy about the time of the prominade, and we in the Weisbrod dining room could not go see them, we were so pleased to have several couples come to show us their attire. Most of the students who came had a parent who works at Weisbrod. We marveled to see the pretty dresses. Since I usually only have seen these girls on the sports floor with their hair pulled back, it was great to see how pretty they are with curls and dresses.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to the King families in the loss of their sister Becky’s husband, Gary Morgan. Gary and Becky were married for 55 year, and lived in a beautiful home in Denver.

Our sympathy is extended to Penny Weirich and families after the death of her sister, Alice Weirich, who was buried April 25 at the Eads Cemetery.
