“Trust in the Lord with all your heart.” Proverbs 3: 5

My hope is that you will re-read the above scripture from Proverbs again and think about how you can trust the Lord more each day. For me, my life has been more blessed because of trusting in the Lord Jesus. I do have such a good life.

Last week, the Eads school hosted the girls regional basketball finals for four schools. It was a pleasure to get to see the Eads girls basketball team in “color” because, when we watch them here at Weisbrod Home, it looks more black and white on the television. However, it is better than to not to see the games at all.

Areta Laird brought me a game program so we can see who the players are. It does my heart good to see Phyllis Nelson sitting there clutching the program as she looks up at the television. Her special interests are her great granddaughter, Bailey Sierra, who is the daughter of Jessica and Donte’ Sierra. Bailey is a sophomore. She is also interested in her niece, Sam and Denise Nelson’s daughter, Aspen Nelson, who is a freshman. Both girls are excellent ball shooters and speedy ball handlers. The Eads team won their games last Friday and Saturday. Thus, they headed off to Greeley to the state tournament Thursday.

At 2:00 last Wednesday, I rolled up to the high school gym to the pep rally, where the west side of the gym was filled with grade school, junior, and senior high school students and many parents, grandparents, and towns people. LaDawwne Britten facilitated the rally. Each grade school class gave gifts or posters they had made for their assigned player. It was remarkable to hear the poem written for each player, read by Betsy Barnett, that pointed out features of each girl’s personality. The other girls’ names on the team are freshmen Peyton Eder, Jordynn Turcotte, Addison Courkamp, and manager Mia Crow. Sophomores are Kennedy Gyurman, Savanna Brown, and Anna Wollert. Tailee Weeks-Johnson, Kara Wilson, and Lexi Shotton are juniors on the team. The lone senior is Alessandra Paez, who is such an outstanding athlete in track, volleyball, and soccer. Mrs. Barnett read a lovely letter to Alssansda that her mother had written to her daughter as her mother and her brothers stood by Alessandra.

As I left, my eyes were brimmed with tears of joy for these girls and their opportunity to play in the state finals and to visit a university town, Greeley. My prayer was that the students and families can experience as much fun and new happenings as I did through the years while sponsoring pep clubs to many state contests. The girls are very young and capable. Their coach, Trey Eder, spoke highly of them. The students were excused to go home to pack and to have another pep send off as they board the bus Thursday for good memories and times in the city and at state.

March 8, the streets were crowded around the Eads Senior Citizen Center with the family and friends who came to wish a dearly loved couple in our town, Vinton and Mary Ellen Englehardt, on their 55th wedding anniversary party. Their children, Tina from Texas, and David from Eads, greeted the guests and invited them to cake and punch and visiting. When I asked Mary if all those strangers were people that enjoyed dancing with, she replied that they were mostly relatives from several states. Vinton is always busy with one of his rental houses or storage units or, as on Monday, he completely cut up and carried away that huge tree that was up-rooted by the wind storm that fell near the clinic. What a blessing.

Many family members and friends of Frank Heins from north of Kit Carson filled the Trinity Lutheran Church last Monday for his viewing and funeral service, which was followed by a comital service at the cemetery. Pastor Tom Barton officiated the services. A dinner was served in the community building. People liked Frank as a fellow farmer and rancher. Earlier his year, Frank was honored at the school, where he was presented with a handmade patriotic quilt constructed by Mary Rhoades at the VFW assembly to thank and honor Frank for his military service in the war.

Congratulations to Case Nelson and Colin Nelson from Eads, who were named finalists for the Daniels Scholarship.
