“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding” Proverbs 3:5-6
The first day back to school after spring break, the Eads girls golf team of five girls left with Coach Justin McLoud to La Junta to compete in a tournament. When I asked Lara Wilson if they had a lunch at a nice place she smiled and said, “Oh no, the tournament took nearly four hours, so we took our lunches.” Now that sounds like work to me. Team members Kara Wilson, Peyton Eder, Addison Couekamp, Jordynn Turcotte, and Reese Barnett felt they had a good day and are excited to golf next at Wray. They were excited that Reese, a freshman on their team, won first place of the tournament.
Carl Blodgett, who spends many days and hours here at Weisbrod Health, is finally getting some enjoyment at his home in Chivington, where he has a little goat farm. Last year ,one nanny goat had four babies at once!
Juanita (Stowell) Olson had a sudden illness and was taken away by air to a Denver hospital recently, where she had good care. While she was in the hospital, she was blessed that her son, Chris, and two daughters flew up from Florida to visit her. Also, her Colorado children, Tammy and David, came to see her. I think it was an energizing reunion for their mother.
The highlight of last weekend at Weisbrod Health was when Johnny Leon drove over from Tribune, Kansas, to sing to us. We really do enjoy listening to him sing mostly country western and ballads. We like to watch his little white dog sit up or stand up to listen intently to her master sing his songs. He and his wife, Brenda, sang a lovely love song duet.
The cover photo of the Kiowa Press last week was of green wheat. I called Chris Sorensen, the publisher, and asked where that green plant was. He said that it was wheat that he had photographed last year near Sheridan Lake. His cover photos are usually current, so I decided this was a “wishful moment” because in places I have been this year, it is very brown in eastern Colorado, except for grass that has been watered, or winter wheat. Hopefully our land will get some rain this week as we have a chance Tuesday night through Wednesday night. In the meantime, let us be just so thankful that we have not suffered from those floods or tornados we see on television happening in America and other countries.
A number of the Weisbrod Health employees were not here for their usual ten or eight hours of work because they were volunteering at the annual health fair at the school. It was a good health fair for the community, and those from other areas, who came to be tested or observe information. They were grateful to all the volunteers and teachers who had tasty snacks for sale, which added to the scholarship fund.
Another treat we had this week and that was Kara Wilson and Bailey Sierra came to give us special manicures. They are such a blessing to us.
Congratulations to the following basketball team members who were selected for honors; All Defense First Team: Weston Mitchek - Eads and Levi Mayhan - Kit Carson; All Defense Second Team: Aydn Hough - Eads and Fernando Ferales Fiereo - Kit Carson; Second Defense Team: Trevan Smith of Cheyenne Wells.
No matter how many times a person reads the Bible, a verse always seems to ping your mind. Here is a verse from I Timothy 5:8 “Anyone who does not provide for his relatives … has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”
Congratulations and best wishes to two very nice people who were married last week at Praise Community Church in Eads: Kelly Rouse Jensen and Robert “Bob” Rittgers.
Through the years, the last Saturday of the month of March was one of my favorite days of the year to go to Lamar to see what and who I could see over the brick wall or through the wire gates of the big track field west of the junior high school. I am interested in any Eads athlete, other schools my friends attend, and most especially, if I had a niece or nephew in the competition.
On the fifth Sunday of the month during the year, Prairie Pines Assisted Living Community and Weisbrod Health Extended Care Unit are grateful to Ron Mannering, and some weeks a guest or two, who drive from Lamar to have a Bible study in the afternoon with the residents in each facility. We do thank people who give of their time to come to visit, entertain us, or bring a “service” or “help” from the outside world around us,
Coach Kyle Barnett guided the Eads baseball team for their first game Friday with Holly. He is expecting this team to remain as strong as last year. This talented baseball team is made up of Cheyenne Brown, Savanna Brown, Wyatt Murdock, Johnny Vasquez, Alexx Egley, Shaine Winder, Brently Buller, Westin Mitchek, Karsten Buller, Jason Bletzacker, and Adyn Hough. I hope you will walk or drive to the baseball field if there is one near you and watch the baseball game. Here in Eads, we have two well-kept fields. I like to watch from my van, but there are great bleachers and food inside the fields.
I visited Sara Crawford, the Kit Carson coach, who told me that she had seen our team girls, Kara Wilson, Lexi Shotton, Tailee Weeks-Johnson and Shay Rady of Kit Carson play on a team together verses another team of selected area outstanding players Saturday night in Lamar. Sara said they were a good team.
Here is a list of Eads and Kit Carson girls who were selected to be listed on the High Plains First team - Eads: Anna Woolert, Reese Barnett, Bailey Sierra; Kit Carson: Avery Johnson and Alyssa Gekeler. Shay Rady received honorable mention. The Defensive All Conference team included juniors Anna Woolert and Alyssa Gekeler.
