“Cast all your anxiety on Him (God) because he cares forr you.” I Peter 5:7

It was such a pleasure to go to the Haswell Bazaar at the former school gym. The Bazaar was the largest one I remember, with more vendors than ever before - stretching down both sides of the gym and the middle, with booths from Eads, Kit Carson, Karval, and Haswell. Kentucky newcomer Tyler Hill did a terrific job of welcoming and planning with Christina Wolf, who also had boxes of her varieties or her delectable cookies and candies for sale in her daughter’s booth. Cleta Englehardt assisted her in serving a marvelous baked potato bar with lots of toppings, two kinds of soup, and varieties of cookies. Added to these good features are all the people from Eads and other towns and ranches that came into Haswell to buy and visit with others.

That afternoon, I went to Maine Street in Eads to Trista Tuttle’s art festival to hear the music, see the wonderful works of art by local artists, and see her new products. Some of those new items are: T-shirts, jewelry, local works of art, and home décor. I was so thrilled to hear the beautiful singing of a woman when I rolled down 13th Street. Later, the pretty singer’s mother told me that she was 17 years old and a senior who lives near Cheyenne Wells whose name is Oakley Mitchek. This young lady is very accomplished and mature in her presentation and ready to sing from any stage. Inside there was a display of marvelous wood art pieces like an Indian head, cougar, flower, and other designs in walnut, pine and other wood. These remarkable wonderful wood art wall hangings, which would beautify homes and businesses, were made by our own Jerry McDaniel right here in Eads at 13th and Kerr Streets!

Pat Benner Roper had such a good 81st birthday last Saturday when her daughter and her daughter-in-law took her to the Haswell Bazaar for lunch and to visit friends. Later, back at Prairie Pines, they feted her with a birthday party.

Michael and Sandy Mosher have moved from north of Manhattan, Kansas, to west of Eads on the former Joyce Hollis farm who has moved to a senior living home in Colorado Springs. We were so glad to meet Sandy and Michael when they came to the senior citizen brunch last Thursday. Michael retired from the military and worked for many years at military bases in the Midwest. Sandy was a day care worker and a pharmacy technician for many years.

Another new person I met at the senior center was Wayne Wilcox. He told me that he had worked for 50 years for an automotive parts store. When I asked him what drew him to our town from Hotchkiss, Kansas, he replied, “My brother, Ken Wilcox, and the good fishing.” He bought the former home of Ruth Koch.

Doug and Viola (Wissel) Chandler are gradually moving from the Greeley area to northwest of Eads to her former home on the Paul and Maria place. Doug plans to retire at the end of the year. Viola is a talented artist.

Aiden Michael has had a good summer of rodeoing. Mainly this young man is a bronc rider at rodeos. One of the places I remember that his grandmother, Gail Voss, told me about was at the Holly Gateway Rodeo where he was the champion bronc rider and won a belt and big buckle. He won at Keenesburg in August, and has been in other ranch rodeos up north, where he works breaking colts for his cousin, Call Rusher’s husband. Aiden was a wrestling coach at Wiley High School, where he also worked in the bus garage and did custodial work for the school.

Terri Voss was so happy to get to hold her most recent grandchild last week. Her granddaughter, JaNae, and Andrew Rushing brought their baby, Lincoln Scott Rushing, for his grandmother to meet him. He was born September 9, 2025. JaNae is a Neonatal ICU Nurse in Colorado Springs. She received a bachelor’s degree from Pikes State College in 2023. She graduated with high honors from Kit Carson High School. Andrew is in the military, so the young couple lives near Fountain-Fort Carson. JaNae is the daughter of Andrea Voss, who lives north of Haswell.

Mogyn Johnson, formerly of Eads, was married in a lovely outdoor wedding to Hunter Wilson. The young couple live west of Lamar, where he works for Amity Canal. They were married near their home in an outdoor wedding. Her mother is Martha Johnson, and her father is the late Mike Johnson. Their friend, Tearle Lessenden, performed the marriage ceremony. Trent and Anna Rittgers provided the music before and after the ceremony for the occasion. Anna showed me some pretty photos of the happy occasion.

Remember that October 15 is the Eads senior citizen noon lunch and meeting. We do enjoy having most of the Weisbrod Health residents come to the monthly lunch. The bingo and card games, on the first Sunday night of the month, haves become quite popular with several ages of people.

The Eads sports teams are doing very well in all their competitions. Do check the many schedules in the Kiowa County Press or about town for games of the week. Justin McCloud and the golf team have been at the state contest this week.
