Hay stocks on Wyoming farms and ranches as of May 1, 2022 totaled 200,000 tons, down 38 percent from stocks of 325,000 tons on hand last year, according to the May 1 Agricultural Yield Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Hay production for 2021 was 1.97 million tons, 27 percent lower than 2020 production. Disappearance from December 1, 2021 to May 1, 2022 was 950,000 tons, compared with 1.18 million tons the same period a year earlier.
