For the week ending August 29, 2021, there were 6.4 days suitable for fieldwork, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Topsoil moisture supplies rated 17% very short, 37% short, 45% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 13% very short, 36% short, 50% adequate, and 1% surplus.
Field Crops Report: Corn condition rated 5% very poor, 12% poor, 29% fair, 46% good, and 8% excellent. Corn dough was 91%, near 95% last year and 92% for the five-year average. Dented was 63%, behind 69% last year, and near 66% average. Mature was 12%, behind 17% last year and 19% average.
Soybean condition rated 5% very poor, 8% poor, 34% fair, 47% good, and 6% excellent. Soybeans blooming was 94%, near 96% both last year and average. Setting pods was 81%, behind 86% both last year and average. Dropping leaves was 6%, near 7% last year and 5% average.
Sorghum condition rated 3% very poor, 9% poor, 32% fair, 50% good, and 6% excellent. Sorghum headed was 93%, near 95% last year and 92% average. Coloring was 48%, near 46% last year, and ahead of 42% average. Mature was 1%, near 2% last year and 3% average.
Cotton condition rated 2% very poor, 8% poor, 37% fair, 46% good, and 7% excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 89%, near 87% last year, and ahead of 76% average. Bolls opening was 20%, near 16% last year, and ahead of 10% average.
