Ag stats: Mountain states chickens and eggs production summary – February 2022
COLORADO
Colorado egg production during February 2022 was 113.6 million eggs, down 11 percent from January 2022 and down 15 percent from February 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand in February 2022 was 4.96 million, up one percent from January 2022 but down 11 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,289 eggs, down 4 percent from last year.
UTAH
Utah egg production during February 2022 was 145.7 million eggs, down 10 percent from January 2022 but up 11 percent from February 2021 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. The average number of layers on hand during February 2022 was 6.56 million, up 4 percent from January 2022 and up 19 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,222 eggs, down 6 percent from last year.
UNITED STATES
United States egg production totaled 8.58 billion during February 2022, up slightly from last year. Production included 7.39 billion table eggs, and 1.19 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.11 billion were broiler-type and 82.3 million were eggtype. The average number of layers during February 2022 totaled 390 million, down 1 percent from last year. February egg production per 100 layers was 2,202 eggs, up 2 percent from February 2021.
Total layers in the United States on March 1, 2022 totaled 390 million, down 1 percent from last year. The 390 million layers consisted of 323 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 63.6 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.69 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on March 1, 2022, averaged 78.5 eggs per 100 layers, up 2 percent from March 1, 2021.
Egg-type chicks hatched during February 2022 totaled 51.1 million, down 2 percent from February 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 55.4 million on March 1, 2022, down 8 percent from a year ago.
Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 276 thousand during February 2022, up 37 percent from February 2021.
Broiler-type chicks hatched during February 2022 totaled 759 million, down slightly from February 2021. Eggs in incubators totaled 719 million on March 1, 2022, up 1 percent from a year ago.
Leading breeders placed 8.20 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during February 2022, down 1 percent from February 2021.
