Ag stats: November 2022 mountain states hogs and pigs highlights
ARIZONA
Arizona inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 147,000 head, down 2 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 15,000 head, was up 1,000 head from last year. Market hog inventory, at 132,000 head, was down 3 percent from last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 291,000 head, was up 10 percent from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 26,500 head, unchanged from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.98 for the December 2021- November 2022 period, compared with 9.96 the previous year.
COLORADO
Colorado inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 530,000 head, up 6 percent from September 1, 2022, but down 15 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 145,000 head, was up 20,000 head from the previous quarter but unchanged from last year. Market hog inventory, at 385,000 head, was up 3 percent from last quarter but down 20 percent from last year.
The September-November 2022 quarterly pig crop, at 606,000 head, was down 18 percent from 2021. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 60,000 head, down 10,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 10.10 for the September-November 2022 period, compared with 10.50 last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 2.51 million head, was down 17 percent from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 252,000 head, down 41,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 9.98 for the December 2021-November 2022 period, compared with 10.31 the previous year.
MONTANA
Montana inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 225,000 head, unchanged from last year. Breeding inventory, at 50,000 head, was up 3,000 head from last year. Market hog inventory, at 178,000 head, was down 3,000 head from last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 1,235,000 head, was up 25 percent from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 101,000 head, up 18,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 12.23 for the December 2021-November 2022 period, compared with 11.90 the previous year.
NEW MEXICO
New Mexico inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 1,500 head, down 400 head from last year. Breeding inventory, at 500 head, was down 400 head from last year. Market hog inventory, at 1,000 head, was unchanged from last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 3,600 head, was up 1,200 head from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 400 head, unchanged from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 9.00 for the December 2021- November 2022 period, compared with 6.00 the previous year.
UTAH
Utah inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 510,000 head, down 38 percent from September 1, 2022, and down 46 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 35,000 head, was down 20,000 head from the previous quarter, and down 50,000 head from last year. Market hog inventory, at 475,000 head, was down 38 percent from last quarter and down 44 percent from last year.
The September-November 2022 quarterly pig crop, at 173,000 head, was down 63 percent from 2021. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 15,000 head, down 29,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.50 for the September-November 2022 period, compared with 10.60 last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 1.55 million head, was down 17 percent from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 135,000 head, down 44,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 11.50 for the December 2021-November 2022 period, compared with 10.45 the previous year.
WYOMING
Wyoming inventory of all hogs and pigs on December 1, 2022, was 108,000 head, up 3 percent from last year. Breeding inventory, at 49,000 head, was up 3,000 head from last year. Market hog inventory, at 59,000 head, was unchanged from last year.
The December 2021-November 2022 annual pig crop, at 861,000 head, was down 4 percent from the previous year. Sows farrowed during this period totaled 92,000 head, up 3,000 head from a year ago. The average pigs saved per litter was 9.36 for the December 2021-November 2022 period, compared with 10.10 the previous year.
