Ag stats: USDA mountain states chicken and egg production – August 2019

COLORADO 

Colorado egg production during August 2019 was 124.7 million eggs, up 6 percent from July 2019 and down 1 percent from August 2018 production, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. The average number of layers on hand in August 2019 was 4.9 million, up 5 percent from July 2019 and up 3 percent from last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,547 eggs, down 4 percent from last year. 

UTAH 

Utah egg production during August 2019 was 119.4 million eggs, down 2 percent from July 2019, but up 1 percent from August 2018 production. The average number of layers on hand during August 2019 was 4.5 million, down 3 percent from July 2019 and down 4 percent over last year. Eggs per 100 layers were 2,660 eggs, up 5 percent from last year. 

UNITED STATES 

United States egg production totaled 9.45 billion during August 2019, up 2 percent from last year. Production included 8.25 billion table eggs, and 1.20 billion hatching eggs, of which 1.12 billion were broiler-type and 82.8 million were eggtype. The average number of layers during August 2019 totaled 392 million, up slightly from last year. August egg production per 100 layers was 2,413 eggs, up 1 percent from August 2018. 

All layers in the United States on September 1, 2019 totaled 393 million, up slightly from last year. The 393 million layers consisted of 331 million layers producing table or market type eggs, 58.5 million layers producing broiler-type hatching eggs, and 3.29 million layers producing egg-type hatching eggs. Rate of lay per day on September 1, 2019, averaged 77.8 eggs per 100 layers, up 1 percent from September 1, 2018. 

Egg-type chicks hatched during August 2019 totaled 46.2 million, down 13 percent from August 2018. Eggs in incubators totaled 47.8 million on September 1, 2019, down 4 percent from a year ago. 

Domestic placements of egg-type pullet chicks for future hatchery supply flocks by leading breeders totaled 194 thousand during August 2019, down 26 percent from August 2018. 

Broiler-type chicks hatched during August 2019 totaled 853 million, up 2 percent from August 2018. Eggs in incubators totaled 694 million on September 1, 2019, up 3 percent from a year ago. 

Leading breeders placed 8.64 million broiler-type pullet chicks for future domestic hatchery supply flocks during August 2019, up 4 percent from August 2018.
