Breezy Monday gives way to days of rain in Kiowa County
Eads and the rest of Kiowa County will see a breezy but warm Monday before a multi-day stretch of showers and thunderstorms arrives, with rain likely continuing through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.
Monday will be cloudy during the morning before clearing to mostly sunny skies in the afternoon, with a high near 77 degrees. South-southeast winds will pick up to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph, forecasters said. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to move in Monday night, with a low around 58 degrees and wind gusts up to 30 mph.
“Widespread precipitation spreads across all of south central and southeast Colorado Monday night through at least Thursday, with periods of heavy rain and possible flooding,” a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo wrote in Sunday’s Area Forecast Discussion.
Widespread rain expected across southeast Colorado
The wet pattern is not limited to Kiowa County. Forecasters said widespread precipitation will spread across south central and southeastern Colorado from Monday night through at least Thursday, with periods of heavy rain possible region-wide. The National Weather Service said the scattered nature of the storms makes it difficult to pinpoint exactly where the heaviest rain will fall, but warned that flash flooding is possible if storms move over areas that have already received recent rainfall or over burn-scarred ground.

Winds will turn breezy out of the north both days, gusting as high as 40 mph Wednesday. Between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible each day.

A high near 63 degrees is expected, with winds turning windy out of the north-northeast at 25 to 30 mph and gusts up to 45 mph as the system pulls away. Friday looks drier and milder, with sunny skies and a high near 66 degrees.
With several inches of rain possible across the region this week, Kiowa County residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded roadways and to monitor forecasts for updates as the storm system evolves.
