Cheyenne County will see a sunny, dry weekend, with a high near 91 in Cheyenne Wells Saturday edging up to 93 Sunday as light winds prevail.

Saturday brings sunny skies and a high near 91, with an east wind around 10 miles per hour. Saturday night will be mostly clear, with a low around 62 and an east wind of 5 to 10 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

According to the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., an upper-level ridge centered near the region will keep conditions warm and dry through the weekend, with temperatures climbing toward the triple digits early next week.

Ridge of high pressure keeps storms away

The Goodland office reports that high pressure aloft is blocking significant storm chances across the tri-state area, leaving only a slim possibility of isolated afternoon showers. Any storm that does manage to develop could produce dry lightning and gusty winds.

Hotter weather arrives behind the weekend, with highs near 99 possible Monday before slightly cooler air and better rain chances return by the middle of next week.
