Eads Board of Trustees Minutes December 12, 2023

The Regular Meeting of the Town of Eads Board of Trustees was called to order by Mayor Shields, Monday December 12, 2023 at 5:00 p.m. in the Town Hall. Robin Fox took roll call:

  • Mayor – Joe D. Shields- Present
  • Trustees – Present –Dennis Pearson, Stephanie Sewell, Tuck Liebl , Kathy McCracken and Fred Derby
  • Absent – Justin McLoud
  • Town Clerk- Robin Fox - Absent
  • Assistant Clerk- Mikahael McCracken
  • Director of Public Works-Van Brown- Trent Rittgers
  • Town Attorney – Lance Clark – Absent

Minutes­- Stephanie Sewell moved to approve the minutes as presented. Kathy McCracken seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Approval of Bills – The finance committee reviewed the bills prior to the meeting. Kathy McCracken moved to approve payment of the bills. Fred Derby seconded, motion passed unanimously.

New Business-

Cindy McLoud talked about the draft for the tearing down of the old swimming pool. They will have to get a meeting set up to go over the things needed for this; Van is the one to oversee this.

Sheriff Bryan Williams presented the reports for the last month.

New Swimming pool- The town was granted $600,000.00 from GOCO and $40,000.00 from the Gates foundation. Lisa was here to update everyone on the grants. Lisa will be putting in for other grants to try and help with the 2.5 million needed. Kathy McCracken would like something put in the paper on what a good job Lisa has done for the Town on writing grants.

Van updated that the storage tank is being redone under warranty work. Van also let everyone know that Trent had passed another water certification “D” class; he will be taking another test soon.

The FEMA grant looks like we should be getting the $98,000.00 back from the sink hole, that we had to fix a few months back.

Budget for 2024- A motion was made to approve the 2024. Kathy McCracken moved to approve the budget. Dennis Pearson seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Ordinance to adopt the 2024 Budget- Dennis Pearson made the motion to approve the Ordinance. Stephanie Sewell seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Ordinance to set the mill levies- Kathy McCracken made a motion to pass the Ordinance. Tuck Liebl seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Ordinance to appropriate sums of money- Stephanie Sewell made a motion to approve the Ordinance. Fred Derby seconded, motion passed unanimously.

Bring up items-

Justin wanted to bring up about the potholes by the school and was wondering if something could be done?

Tuck brought up that Roger Saffer would like to see something done with the runway at the airport. The town will try and add it to the impact grant that is being run through the county.

Van would like his wages looked at more seriously and wants to talk about a higher raise than the 3%.

The town and board members are getting complaints about the train sitting within the town limits running all hours of the night, the sound and smell of fumes are starting to upset people. People are asking why this cant park outside town limits if it has to run all the time.
