15 Years Ago - July 24, 2009

  • Colorado Commissioner of Ag, John Stulp dedicated the first Entregrity 50kW wind turbine erected on a farm near Walsh.
  • Southern Plains 16 & under won the State Babe Ruth Softball Tournament played in Lamar. They, along with Southeast Denver, will play at the regional tournament to be held in Burlington.
  • As the West End Turns- Michelle Wyckoff: In the last 5 years, I’ve come a long way. I conquered backing out of the garage and, amazingly, the tree is still at the end of the driveway.

25 Years Ago - July 23, 1999

  • Jennifer James & Darci Weeks were overall high point award winners in performance at the District 4-H Horse Show held in Lamar.
  • It was good to see Mike Oquist of the Oakland Athletics playing against the Colorado Rockies baseball team. Mike grew up in La Junta, but old timers remember his father, Dean, as a baseball player around Eads years ago.

40 Years Ago - July 27, 1984

  • Truckloads of wheat are still coming into the elevators. Several famers are already through with harvest and others still combining.

50 Years Ago - July 26, 1974

  • Mayor Clyde Crow presented the City Council a letter from SECPA. They were being charged with pumping water into the town limits by going municipal.
  • Jim Richardson and Linda Thorpe were traveling through Eads on bicycles. They had started June 1 in Reedsport Oregon, averaging 12 mph, 60-70 miles a day, and plan on completing their trip September 1 in Williamsburg, Virginia, a 4000 mile trip.

75 Years Ago - July 22, 1949

  • Five of Art Johnson’s horses were killed by a lightning strike, including a registered animal belonging to Howard Holter.
