Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has ordered flags lowered to half-staff on Monday, Nov. 7, on all public buildings statewide in memory of Cimarron Hills Firefighter Jermaine Frye. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to sunset.

Frye, 31, died on October 29 following an injury he sustained during training in the Colorado Springs area. Frye is survived by his fiancée Megan who is expecting, and family members.

Frye volunteered as a firefighter while still in high school with the Woodmen Valley Volunteer Fire Department, followed by the Falcon Fire Department and the Cimarron Hills Fire Department. He later worked as an EMT for American Medical Response and as a firefighter/paramedic with the Aurora Fire Department. He joined the Cimarron Hills Fire Department in 2015.

Frye deployed as a firefighter with the Department of Homeland Security to assist with search and rescue efforts during Hurricane Katrina and Rita. He also received the Medal of Honor and an in-person recognition from President Obama for his role as a first-responder during the 2012 theater shooting in Aurora.

Services will be held on Monday, Nov. 7, at 11:00 a.m. at New Life Church, 11025 Voyager Pkwy in Colorado Springs. The family asks that attendees wear purple or Denver Broncos attire in remembrance of Firefighter Frye.
