Governor Polis took executive action Friday to help lower fuel costs for Coloradans. On that day, Coloradans were paying an average of $4.18 per gallon for gas and $6.21 per gallon for diesel.

The governor's office blamed the high prices on President Trump's war with Iran. The office said the war is costing Colorado families, raising the cost to move goods and hurting farmers and ranchers.

"Americans are paying the price for Trump's war with Iran at the pump, and around the dinner table. The President's reckless war is directly increasing the cost of oil, which forces up gas prices on Coloradans trying to get where we need to go, farmers growing the food we eat, and drivers moving goods across the country. Today, I am taking Executive Action to help save Coloradans money at the pump. It is far past time for this war to end, the President must get us out of this war that Americans didn't want," said Governor Polis.

Colorado farmers face extra strain from the high price of diesel. Rising fuel costs are driving up expenses for farmers and ranchers who grow food for Colorado tables.

The executive order directs three state agencies to act.

The Colorado Department of Transportation will issue permits that let truckers carry more fuel on state highways. Trucks must still follow all safety rules. The goal is to lower the cost of delivering gas and diesel and pass the savings on to Coloradans.

The Colorado Department of Public Safety will not enforce the ban on dyed diesel fuel on state highways until December 31, 2026. This includes no inspections, citations or other enforcement based on the presence of dyed diesel fuel.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment will ask the federal Environmental Protection Agency to waive Reformulated Gas requirements during summer 2027. The aim is to increase supply and lower the cost of gas.
