I have learned over the last 18 months that when the topic of Elections comes up, so do the questions. Today I would like to take some time to address some of the more frequent questions our office gets.
- I know I am registered to vote in Kiowa County but did not receive my ballot, what happened?
- Official Ballots cannot be forwarded by the post office, what this means is if you registered to vote but didn’t put your mailing address (if different than your physical) on the form, the ballot was sent to your physical address and has been returned to our office as undeliverable. You can check kiowa.ballottrax.net or govotecolorado.gov to check what address your ballot was mailed to. If your ballot was sent to the wrong address, please update as soon as possible online or in person to ensure you are issued a ballot. The last day to request a mail ballot is June 22nd, 2026!
- I only got one ballot in the mail, but my friend got two, why is it different?
- This is a great question! In Colorado, all unaffiliated voters receive a Democratic and Republican ballot during the primary election. If you are affiliated with ANY party, and there is a primary ballot for that party, you will only receive that one ballot.
- I forgot to sign and/or date my envelope when I returned my ballot, what do I do now?
- If you realize you forgot to sign your ballot envelope or put the date, before we contact you, please contact our office as soon as possible at 719-438-5421 so we can give you instructions. Whenever our office receives a ballot envelope without a signature, we mark the ballot rejected for signature deficiency. What this means is that you will receive a letter requesting you provide our office with a photocopy of your ID and a signature on the letter. Once received your ballot will be accepted.
- How do I know you have received and accepted my ballot?
- Colorado has a ballot tracking system called Ballot Trax, it can be accessed at kiowa.ballottrax.net or govotecolorado.gov or call our office at 719-438-5421 and we can give you the updated status.
- What happens to my ballot when you receive and accept it?
- The ballot envelope is date stamped, scanned into the voting system, and signatures are compared to the submitted envelope with your last voted ballot or voter registration on file. Once accepted, it is placed in a locked ballot box and stored, sealed until Election Day when all ballots are opened and counted. I will highlight the counting process next time!
I hope this helps answer any questions you may have about the elections process! Please feel free to follow us on Facebook, visit the office or call anytime with any questions!
Thank you for allowing me to serve you!
