On the November Ballot registered voters of Kiowa County will be asked to vote on Kiowa County Referred Ballot Issue 1A to EXTEND THE EXISTING MILL LEVY for Prairie Pines Assisted Living.  I’m concerned that the voters of Kiowa County may think that this will result in a tax increase.  It is NOT A TAX INCREASE, but a continuation or extension of an existing tax that has been existence for the previous 10 years.   The purpose of the tax is to help with construction debt retirement and supplement operating and maintenance expenses.

I could go into all the reasons why the voters should vote YES, but those have already been addressed in previous articles and informational meetings.  My main WHY are the residents who call it home and the staff that are employed to care for the residents.  Yes, it will have an economic impact on Kiowa County if it doesn’t pass.  It would be a crying shame if the lights would go out at the end of Maine, but it’s the people that would be affected that concern me the most.

Please vote YES on Kiowa County Referred Ballot Issue 1A to Extend the Existing Mill Levy for Prairie Pines Assisted Living.  Remember IT IS NOT A TAX INCREASE,  but a continuation of an existing tax.
