The Monument Hill Trail and Bluff Trail at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site have reopened to visitors.

In February 2019, a rehabilitation project was initiated at the site which included improvements to several areas on Monument Hill. Most of the work for this project has now been completed.

Visitors are welcome to walk the trail to Monument Hill and along the Bluff Trail during regular park hours, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. Due to its length, 1.5 miles one way, the Bluff Trail will close at 3:30 pm. Visitors are asked to plan visits accordingly. Because the areas immediately adjacent to the trails are being prepared for revegetation, visitors must remain on the gravel trails at all times.

Rehabilitation activities are still active on Monument Hill Road and in the upper parking area. These areas will remain closed to vehicles for visitor safety.

Restrooms on Monument Hill are open for visitors who choose to walk to the monument. Additional restrooms are available at the Visitor Contact Station.
