Samuel Atchison “Sam” Jones, 78, of Pueblo died Sunday Oct. 16, 2016, at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born July 19, 1938  in Lamar to Hugh and Edith (Waggoner) Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Pat; daughter, Deiana (Phil) Morgan of Cañon City; son, Sam (Andrea) Jones of Weddington, N.C.; stepdaughters, Kathy Eikenberg of Eads and Debbie (Dave) Carter of Holdenville, Okla.; stepdaughter-in-law Linda Garrison of Eldora, Iowa; mother-in-law, Margit Parker of Lamar; brothers-in-law Jack (Bonnie) Parker of Wichita, Kan., and Norman (Joyce) Parker of Dighton, Kan.; sisters-in-law Jo Ellen Bullock of Friend, Neb., Lora (Rick) Bentley of Garden City, Kan., Connie (Sam) Peek of Adrian, Mo., Linda Hagins of Carthage, Mo., Donna Parker of Garden City, Kan., and Emma Lea (Luke) Volke of Lamar; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents; daughter Kristie; stepsons Ric and Lonnie Garrison; sisters, Mary, Lila, Elsie and Clarice; and brothers-in-law Gene Parker and Paul Bert Parker.

In his spare time, he enjoyed doing leather craft and had taught leather craft to Boy Scout Troops. He found pleasure in making beautiful lamps from flower pots and making other crafts that he lovingly gifted to family and friends. In his quiet time, you could find him doing word searches. He was a avid Broncos and Colorado Rockies fan. 

Sam was hard working and held various jobs including Town Marshal in Granada, parts man at Salida Motors in Salida, steel worker at Midwest Fabrication in Pueblo, and did custodial work at Colorado Mental Health Institute in Pueblo.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pueblo.

Sam was a Deacon at the Southern Baptist Church for many years and attended Heritage Baptist Church under Pastor Chuck Bigler. Through all his illness he maintained his faith in God, that he would be healed, and found his physical healing when he entered into God’s realm.

At his request Sam was cremated and a Graveside Memorial Service will be held at Eads Cemetery on Memorial Day 2017.
