Albert David Reichel, 89, of Greeley, passed away January 19, 2024, at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.

He was born March 10, 1934, in Windsor, to David and Mollie (Kurtz) Reichel.

Albert enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1952 at the age of 18, transitioned into active service in the U.S. Army in 1956, and was honorably discharged in 1960. He was very proud of his military service, and would wear his uniform on various occasions.

Albert married Mary Cowherd on August 2, 1959. They had four children together. Albert was a custom home builder who built and remodeled various homes and small businesses in the Greeley area during his 60+ years in construction. Albert was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church from 1959 until his passing.

Albert was a hard worker, and took pride in all he did. He enjoyed taking day trips on his Harley and listening to polka music. Albert loved watching western classics, war movies, and documentaries, and was also known for sharing lots of jokes.

Albert was a perfectionist, which is evident in the quality of his workmanship and in his personal life. He spent countless hours working in his yard after retiring and maintained both the family home and the adjacent rental property. Many friends and neighbors commented on the immaculate lawns and flower beds. Albert especially liked gladiolas, planting thousands of bulbs every spring for many years.

He was known to be a bit ornery, and also fearless, which was reflected in his many youthful pranks and a brief stint racing cars as a young man. Even as an adult, he would sometimes get a little carried away trying to show the youngsters that he could still out do whatever they did. His children marvel at the many risky things he would do while at the same time emphatically prohibiting them from doing the same.

Albert is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Laura (John) Negley, Tim (Maria) Reichel, David (Nicole) Reichel, and Ruby (Joe) Fast; and eight grandchildren, Jennifer and Jayce Negley, Simon and Evan Reichel, Nathan and Ashley Reichel, and Trey and Colby Fast.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ruby; and a brother, Harold.
