- Residents in central Kiowa County reported they felt the 3.9 earthquake about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
- Roberta Tolby, Prairie Pines Assisted Living resident, was selected as the Arkansas Valley 2009 Silver Queen
25 Years Ago - August 20, 1999
- All of Kiowa County was without power after a cross arm broke on a main transmission line tower near the Great Plains Reservoirs on the Kiowa-Prowers county line.
- Two local quilters won big at the Colorado State Fair. Hazel Krueger received three blues, Award of Excellence and a Worthy Mention. Pam Addington received a blue, Judge’s Choice and a Worthy of Mention awards.
40 Years Ago - August 24, 1984
- It was back to school for students in Kiowa County. Plainview will have a five-day schedule and the Eads/Haswell will be on 4-day school week.
50 Years Ago - August 23, 1974
- Estimated completion of the Kiowa-Albright Memorial Center in Sheridan Lake was to be this winter. It will house a game room and bowling lanes. The Post Office is located on the main floor.
75 Years Ago - August 19, 1949
- Many places in Prairie Queen received big amounts of rain. Some places received as much as three inches, fields were huge lakes and many basements were flooded
100 Years Ago - 1924
- Eads farmers purchased a car load of McCormick-Deering corn pickers, which will arrive in October in time for “picking corn for Kiowa County raisers.”
- Eads has its unusual fine crops of weeds. A little trimming out around the corners would help appearance greatly.
