25 Years Ago - August 25, 2000

  • Rather than charging for grandstand admission or barbecue to the Kiowa County Fair, there will be admission charged at the gate or you can purchase wrist bands in advance.
  • Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Schrimp: Noella Johnson says they have been invaded by rattlesnakes. They have killed 4 or 5 close to buildings. Some were pretty big.

40 Years Ago - August 23, 1985

  • Dan & Evelyn Garner assumed ownership of Eads Bowling Lanes. They owned the lanes from 1967 to 1977. They sold it to Don and Charlotte Phillips who have operated it the past eight years.
  • The topic of the Eads Chamber of Commerce meeting focuses on the possibility of getting the local reservoirs, primarily Nee Gronda, designated as a state park.

50 Years Ago - August 22, 1975

  • The State Highway Department is putting gutter on the south side of the highway, and have changed the island at the junction of Highways 96 and 287 in Eads to widen the highway.

75 Years Ago - 1950

  • The fire alarm sounded in Eads heralding the birth of a baby boy to Mr. & Mrs. Don E. Aldrich. Normally the birth of a child is not unusual, but this is the first boy in this family of seven girls, so they blew the whistle.
    • Mr. & Mrs. Oscar Mosher will soon open a serve-yourself laundry.

100 Years Ago – 1925

  • Rev. W.M. Johnson and son of Sheridan Lake were in Eads. Son Frank is becoming a real salesman, selling washing powder to all the housewives in Eads.
