  • Jennifer Negley was the recipient of the County Sheriffs of Colorado Scholarship award for Kiowa County.
  • USDA Update- Rod Johnson: It sure seems like an excessively windy year. We can deal with wind when we are mechanically tilling land but it’s real difficult to manage spraying ag chemicals.
  • East End Event- Sharon Scott: We had close to 5 inches of rain – the weeds are growing like crazy – the wind is still blowing 50 mph. Aren’t you glad you live in southeast Colorado?

25 Years Ago - June 2, 2000

  • Fishing conditions: Nee Grande and Nee Noshe Reservoirs- Water high. Wiper and saugeye action sporadic. Queens Reservoirs- most actions has been on catfish and wiper.

40 Years Ago - May 31, 1985

  • The first annual Eads Appreciation Day is scheduled for June 1 and is sponsored by Eads Chamber of Commerce to show everyone their appreciation for the Eads community and the people in the community.
  • Catherine Scherler of Sheridan Lake was honored by the Colorado Flying Farmer and Ranchers, and members of the International Flying Farmers during an IFF Queen Day.

50 Years Ago - May 30, 1975

  • UHF tower in Kiowa County has been completed. Channel 11 and 13 could be received over Memorial weekend and Channel 5 will be available next week.
  • The football & tack field should have a soft cover of grass this fall when football season begins due to the underground sprinkling system that has been installed.
