- Winter Canola is now being grown in the Arkansas Valley and being crushed for oil being used to make a fuel that can be used in diesel vehicles.

- USDA Update- Rod Johnson: May 13 the temperatures in the area went below the freezing point. Some damage to winter wheat has occurred.
40 Years Ago - May 17, 1985
- Plainview graduates 10 from Kindergarten.
- A man from Colorado Springs set the state record for Wiper. The 19.25 inch, 4 pound. 5.5 ounce fish was caught at Nee Noshe Reservoir near Eads.
50 Years Ago - May 16, 1975
- A tornado sighted in Eads did extensive damage at the airport and other buildings in the area. Some buildings hit looked as if they exploded.
- The Colorado winter wheat is forecast to be 42 percent lower than the 1974 crop.
75 Years Ago - May 19, 1950
- Equipment from the First national Bank has been moved to the Bransgrove building while the old bank building is being renovated to make it more modern and convenient.
