• For those getting the minimum wage, a 25-cent an hour pay hike goes into effect Monday. The hourly wage went from $2.65 to $2.90 and will move to $3.10 January 1, 1980.
• The Real Estate Training Center of Colorado is coming to eastern Colorado. The new branch will open soon in Hugo.

January 3, 1969

• Doug Shotton, son of Mr. & Mrs. Aubrey Shotton, will be showing his Catch-It-Calf at the National Western Stock Show. Mike and Billy Smotherman will also represent Kiowa County when the show their Angus cattle in the Junior Angus Show in Denver.
• December 28, many 4-H members and their families met at the Haswell Booster Hall for a fun packed evening. Floyd Griswould did the calling for the square dances.
