  • The RE-1 school board received a proposal switch to a 6-man football program from the current 8-man programs.
  • About Town-Ida & Doris Lessenden: I especially commend Bob Seay and the band. They sounded great and our community is so grateful to have a pep band.
  • About Town-Ida & Doris Lessenden: Plainview School was the front page in a Denver newspaper with an article several ways the citizens have tried to preserve their school and keep the attendance up.

  • Zelda Peterson was recently honored for her 50 years membership in the Colorado Association for Family and Community Education.
  • Towner Tales- Ann Harkness: The Plainview Junior High volleyball team brought home the Consolation Trophy from District Volleyball tournament held in Cheraw.

October 19, 1979

  • From the Sheriff’s Desk-Floyd M. Griswould: Things continue to be active in Kiowa County. A dead bull belonging to Mrs. Theo Boulware contains some strange marks. We definitely ruled out mutilation.

  • Sheridan Lake New: Who would have thought of a snow such as we had coming in here in the middle of October.
  • Haswell Happenings: Over an inch of rain fell before turning to heavy snow.
  • Fall season was cut short as a cold front moved into a vast area of the plains states dumping snow and rain in most places.

October 13, 1944

  • F.E. Widger, local blacksmith, suffered painful burns on his right hand and forearm while working in his shop.  He was preparing to weld a distilled barrel, which exploded.

October 10, 1919

  • Henry Eder has been hauling out building material to build a house in school district No. 5 where the schoolteacher will reside.

October 17, 1919

  • The glad news comes to the Press this week that Eads is to have 10 to 15 blocks of news cement sidewalks. These will be a big step toward modernizing Eads and it was not necessary to organize sidewalk districts.
