  • A bat from Kiowa County recently tested positive for rabies at the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment Laboratory.
  • A crowd of about 50 people showed up for the dedication of the Kiowa County Horseshoe Park.

August 8, 1997

  • Heavy rains, totaling over five inches, have damaged most of Kiowa County roads. A culvert which used to let Rush Creek pass under the County Y Road was pushed more than 50 feet down stream.

  • August 10 is the final day to register for the Primary Election set for September 14.
  • From the Sheriff’s Desk- Floyd Giswould: Can you imagine just how deep the snow is going to get this winter if the wet weather conditions continue?

August 11, 1972

  • The 1972 Kiowa County 4-H Exhibit Day was highlighted by naming Pam Brown as “Miss Fashion.”
  • Kiowa County senior citizens were among the throngs attending the opening of the Kiowa County Museum.
  • Last Wednesday night was one of the times when Haswell would have been better off without the clouds. A severe storm with hail and winds of more than 90 miles per hour broke off about a dozen R.E.A poles.

  • A group of Eads Lions did themselves proud by lending a hand at removing dirt from Maine Street.
  • Cheyenne County officially became a part of the 15th judicial district. The county was formerly in the Colorado Springs district.

 August 4, 1922

  • A couple of young gentlemen from one of our neighboring cities to the south of us were caught by Sheriff McCracken in the act of stowing away a couple of bottles of jazzed pop. The men had purchased at Queens Beach and were drinking them when another party took the bottles, emptied part of contents and filled them with home brew. The Sheriff arrested the whole party.
