  • This week, 500 trout will be stocked, with 500 more expected prior to Kids Fishing Day at Jackson Pond.
  • Bonfils Blood Drive coordinators, Linda Trosper and Mary Vasquez and the STAND Club students held a blood drive, with 43 community members participating. Each blood donor was given a coupon for a slice of pie at K & M Ranch House.

April 10, 1998

  • A bill, which authorizes the Colorado Department of Transportation to purchase the rail line between Towner and the North Avondale Junction, passed the state Senate. It now goes to Governor Roy Romer to sign or become law without his signature in 10 days. 
  • Nursing Home News- Nellie Nickert: The coffee club is getting to be real sociable. The count around the tables was 27, and only 10 of those were residents.

April 15, 1983

  • During the month of February, the Plainview junior high and elementary physical education classes held a jump-a-thon for the Heart Foundation. The students raised $1,538 for the “Heart.” The jumpers received patches, T-shirts, warm-up suits, and tote bags as awards for their pledges.

  • The AT&T long lines Eads Radio Relay Site east of Eads is an impressive sight from a distance. The base becomes more spectacular at a height of 368 feet high. A smaller partner to the west stands 200 feet high.

April, 1948

  • USPS has issued a warning that chain postal cards will be confiscated, and instructions have been sent to the postmaster accordingly. Chain letters and post cards are considered as a lottery.
  • Several property owners and ranchers from Baca, Bent, Kiowa, and Prowers counties are offering reward of $2,000 should any person or persons be apprehended and found guilty of stealing or vandalizing personal property. Another $2,000 will be paid by Bent-Prowers Cattle and Horse Growers Association, providing the personal property is cattle and the undersigned are also members of the Association.

April, 1923

  • Julius Packer sold several tons of feed for $12 a ton. Not bad returns on a crop that had been hailed three times.
