June 27, 2008

  • Rabies vaccination clinics held in three locations across Kiowa County resulted in 168 dogs and cats being vaccinated. The clinics were arranged after a skunk had tested positive for rabies.
  • The Eads Chamber of Commerce annual Community Marketplace will resume Saturday and be held every Saturday through the end of September.

  • The Board of Directors of Kiowa County Hospital District announced the Sheridan Lake Medical Clinic will be closed due to low patient volume.

July 1, 1983

  • The Eads Chamber of Commerce is putting on the final touches on the annual 4th of July festivities. The day will include horseshoe pitching tournament, open house at the First National Bank, free watermelon, variety show, and cap the day with a fireworks display at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds.

June 29, 1973

  • Nee Noshe yields state record Catfish. Russell Good of Lamar’s gleaming shopper weighed an astounding 33 pounds 4 ounces, and took 1.25 hours to land.
  • Eastern Slope Rural Telephone Association was denied a rate increase by the PUC of Colorado.

June, 1948

  • Robert Richards was treated at Weisbrod Hospital Saturday and Sunday for a black widow spider bite.
  • Sheridan Lake- We are proud to announce the opening of a new café by Mr. & Mrs. L.B. Smith.
  • Towner- Two inches of rain fell and, though the moisture is good, for the sake of the wheat harvest, we hope we don’t get any more for a few weeks.
  • Mr. & Mrs. Ben Weiser entertained by giving a house warming in their juke box shop. A good time was had by all.

100 Years Ago

June,1923

  • Steve Winans brought in a stalk and leaf of rhubarb that was 26 inches in length, and the leaf would have made a good umbrella for this wet country.
  • Mr. Perkins of Arlington had the misfortune to lose his cow by eating too much corn.
  • Otto Schmidt started to town with his car but broke an axle. The last we saw of him, he was trying to wire a buggy axle on so as to get the horseless carriage home.
  • Rev. B.R. Lawton & R.R. Ransdell of Sheridan Lake were in Eads on business. On their way home their jitey refused to “jit” and they returned to Eads for help.
