Severe thunderstorm watch Saturday evening for east central Colorado
The National Weather Service was issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 p.m. Saturday for east central Colorado counties.
Just before 6:00 p.m. several severe thunderstorm warnings were in effect in the area, including one storm traveling out of Prowers County into Kiowa County on a track to impact Brandon.
Counties covered under the watch include Prowers, Bent, Otero, Crowley, Kiowa, Cheyenne, Kit Carson and Lincoln.
A severe thunderstorm watch means that conditions are favorable for the formation of a severe storm, while a warning indicates that a severe thunderstorm is occurring, and can include dangerous, rapidly-changing conditions such as large hail, strong winds and lightning.
If a warning is issued for your area, take shelter in a sturdy building, if possible in an interior room away from windows.
