  • Lori Weirich set a new school record at the 2A state track and field meet in the discus throw.
  • Kit Carson Clips- Marilyn White: We had an unwelcome guest show up while we were eating supper. Crawling across our dining room floor was a very large bull snake.
  • East End Events-Sharon Scott: Around 125 family and friends gathered at Plainview School to honor Cora Coffman on her retirement. Cora received a plaque from the CO Dept. of Education for her 37 years of service.

  • At graduation ceremonies it was announced that Eads High School seniors have accepted $40,000 in scholarships.

June 3, 1983

  • Chivington Postmaster Mary Marble, and William Dawson, visiting his parents, prevented a serious accident from happening. Dawson noticed a semi double-decker loaded with cattle, had high centered on the railroad tracks east of town. He stopped at the Post Office asking Mary if there was a way to stopped train he knew would be coming from the west. They both ran to the crossing in Chivington and were able to flag the train to stop.

June 1, 1973

  • The “Big Blow,” as the storm has been locally dibbed, burned wheat fields, uprooted and toppled trees, toppled signs, and played havoc in general with flower and vegetable gardens across the area.
