Welcome to 2024 Talks.
We're following our democracy in historic times.
Joe Biden's been a phenomenal president.
He's lived up to so many of the promises he's made.
There's one promise left that he could fulfill, being a transitional figure.
Jamal Simmons, a former aide to Vice President Kamala Harris, is calling for President Joe Biden to resign so Harris can finish out the final weeks of his term.
Harris hasn't endorsed the idea, but Simmons says the move would ease the pressure on the next woman who runs for president.
Control of the House is still undecided.
Although the GOP has locked up more seats, Republicans will control the Senate.
Progressive California Congressman Ro Khanna says the party should have done more to emphasize economic issues.
Others are inevitably citing Biden's late decision to leave the presidential race, though Khanna disagrees.
I think this was a winnable campaign.
Even when he got out, Vice President Harris was five points up in some of the polls.
Anyone who's saying now this was not a winnable campaign didn't say that back in August.
Republican Ohio Congressman and Trump loyalist Jim Jordan says President-elect Donald Trump's win marks the greatest political comeback ever.
President Trump's numbers were right up where they were in 2020, but the Democrats were much lower.
I think it's because they had no vision, no record to run on, and they just wanted to call everyone names.
The Justice Department has started to wind down two federal investigations of Trump, but Jordan says congressional Republicans still consider the probes to be illegitimate political attacks and are not taking any possible responses off the table.
New York judicial officials are still considering the sticky problem of how to handle Trump's state convictions.
Despite the election, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan says Biden is committing to getting Congress to authorize more aid to Ukraine in its war against Russia.
Walking away from Ukraine means more instability in Europe.
And ultimately, as the Japanese prime minister said, if we walk away from Ukraine in Europe, the question about America's commitment to our allies in Asia will grow.
Trump has said he would be able to end the war in a day, has touted his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and has said he would prioritize an America First agenda.
U.S. intelligence agencies say Russian internet trolls were behind recent false videos showing election fraud.
Chris McIsaac is with right-leaning R Street Initiative.
He says AI is making deepfake videos easy to make, and people should be skeptical if something seems shocking.
Remain suspicious of things that they see that garner an emotional response.
Just be sure to try to double-check multiple sources to try to figure out what is true or what is false.
Over the weekend, Trump officially won Arizona's 11 Electoral College votes.
But Democratic Congressman Ruben Gallego also beat former TV news anchor and Trump ally Carrie Lake to take the state's Senate seat.
Gallego will be the first Latino to serve in the Senate from Arizona.
I'm Alex Gonzalez.
