Bent-Prowers Cattle and Horse Growers Association members are invited to join its multi-county board and the Southeast Colorado Junior Cattlemen for a potluck Saturday night, June 30, in Lamar. The evening will include a presentation by Nathan May, who just returned from the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Young Cattlemen’s Conference (YCC); as well as highlights from last week’s Colorado Cattlemen’s Association (CCA) convention.

May attended the 10-day YCC, which is an annual industry leadership opportunity that gives select participants an inside look at the beef cattle industry as they travel from Denver to Chicago to Washington, DC.

Local ranchers were among the 500 attendees at the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association annual convention earlier in June in Loveland. Bent-Powers Cattlemen President Matt Neuhold of Lamar received a CCA Young Guns honor; and Milton and Carol Rink of Bristol received a special Volunteer Award for 20 years of service as Junior CCA advisers. Other leadership roles included: Colby Mick of Wiley and David Mendenhall of Rocky Ford, co-chair of the Brand and Theft committee; Bill Gray of Ordway, co-chair of the Marketing committee; Nolan Davis of Lamar, co-chair of Beef Improvement committee; JoAnn McEndree of Springfield, Colorado CattleWomen vice president; and Curtis Russell of Sugar City, CCA Board of Directors. Also during the 151st annual CCA convention, about 20 local ranchers helped shape policy at committee meetings, attended the Ranching Legacy Symposium, kicked back at a game night at CSU, and attended a Governors’ Candidate forum.

In other recent activities, Bent-Prowers Cattlemen donated $1000 to the Walsh Fire Recovery Fund. “Our cattlemen’s group serves Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero & Prowers counties, and we’re proud that we could earmark some of our disaster account to help the Walsh ag community recover,” Pres. Neuhold said after the May 31st board meeting.

To join in the June 30 potluck meeting, members are asked to RSVP by contacting Neuhold at 719-688-9522, Secretary Susan Russell at 719-469-0020, or by email at bpcattlemen@gmail.com
