Factor Earth Explore, in partnership with the Canyons & Plains Regional Heritage Taskforce and the Colorado Tourism Office, has released the latest virtual tour of one of southeast Colorado’s heritage sites, the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. This tour honors the Cheyenne and Arapaho murdered and traumatized in the Sand Creek Massacre, as well as their living descendants, and reflects on one of our nation's most tragic historic places.

Anyone can use their smartphone or computer to experience 360o images of this National Park Service unit commemorating the November 1864 massacre of over 230 Cheyenne and Arapaho, mostly women, children, and elderly. Three images taken on site show the main visitor area, the interpretive overlook, and the bluff trail. Each image contains pins to click on that cover the history of the tribes, the day of the massacre itself, and the status of the Cheyenne and Arapaho today. This adventure is the last in a series of Factor Earth Explore virtual experiences produced in conjunction with Canyons & Plains. Others currently available on the platform include the Santa Fe Trail, Fort Lyon, Bent’s Old Fort, Boggsville, Amache National Historic Site, and the State Parks of the Canyons & Plains.

These free virtual experiences were funded, in part, by the Canyons & Plains Regional Heritage Taskforce and a Tourism Management Grant from the Colorado Tourism Office.
