Senator Byron Pelton condemns Perkins Canal plan, reaffirms Colorado water defense
Colorado State Senator Byron Pelton issued the following statement concerning the Perkins Canal and Nebraska’s recent water lawsuit against the state of Colorado:
“Agriculture is an economic driver of Senate District 1 and the state of Colorado. Building the Perkins Canal would severely impact irrigation in water district 64. Nebraska‘s feeble attempt to say that we are not providing them with enough water during the irrigation season is absolute lunacy, and is a desperate attempt of Improving their situation with the South Platte River compact. Representative Dusty Johnson and I met with the State Water Engineer Jason Ullmann and his team to discuss the pending Nebraska Lawsuit over the South Platte River Compact. I came away from that meeting knowing that they are prepared to defend the water rights of everyone in Colorado.”
