Sheriff’s Office: Beware of IRS Scam Calls
iStock
The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted by a county resident about a phone call where the caller purported to be from the IRS in order to obtain personal information.
The IRS does not call – or email - people asking for personally identifying information, including financial information. The agency sends notification via the United States Postal Services, and also responds to calls from taxpayers. Anyone receiving such a call should simply hang up.
As a general reminder: NEVER give out personal information, including social security numbers, bank account information, or credit cards to anyone who calls you.
