Southeast Colorado Memorial Day weekend weather outlook
Southeast Colorado’s Memorial Day weekend is shaping up to be warm, dry, and largely free from rain.
High temperatures will generally be above seasonal norms, reaching the 80s across the most of the region through Memorial Day. Lamar, La Junta, and Las Animas will see low 90s Saturday, while Cheyenne Wells will fall just short of 80 degrees Sunday and Monday.
Overnight lows are expected to range from the mid-40s to low 50s.
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are a slight possibility Saturday, especially north of Highway 50, though any storms that do develop are expected to remain below the severe category. Thunderstorms are less likely Sunday, and are expected to be limited to the southern mountains.
Cheyenne County is under a fire weather watch for Saturday. Relative humidity is predicted to drop as low as 10 percent, with southwest winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour. The watch may convert to a red flag warning due to fire risk.
While other counties in the region are not currently under a watch for fire weather, warm and dry conditions do increase the risk.
Looking to next week, chances for afternoon showers and thunderstorms increase through mid-week, with stronger storms possible Thursday and Friday. Temperatures will be at or above seasonal norms.
