A wanted suspect was arrested in Aurora Friday after a coordinated chase involving the Colorado State Patrol and Greeley and Aurora Police Departments, ending a tense day-long manhunt.
Samuel Reed, 44, was taken into custody around 1:35 p.m. Friday after police tracked him in a 2017 Subaru WRX. He was wanted on a felony warrant from Weld County for second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, and harassment with a domestic violence enhancement. Reed was also on parole for child abuse and under a protection order for manufacturing drugs around children.
Police believed Reed was armed and dangerous. He had threatened to harm officers and said he wanted to die in a “suicide by cop.”
The Greeley Police Department CSP for help. CSP responded, using both ground units and a aircraft to locate Reed. Troopers tried to stop him near 136th Avenue and Interstate 25 using a grappler device, but effort failed.
CSP’s plane was unable to track Reed’s car near East 11th Avenue and Jamaica Street in Aurora. Officers from the Aurora Police Department were able to assist in arresting Reed, who was taken into custody without incident.
