Prayers are in order for Gary Longwell, a resident of Kit Carson. He suffered an Atrial Fibrillation onset and was hospitalized.

The renovations at the Kit Carson Clinic are completed and the clinic started seeing patients Monday December 4.

We are in the last month of 2023; time to review the past events and start planning for 2024. The activities that took place this past week demonstrate the blessings of living in a rural environment. Eastern Colorado Bank conducted photo shoots and handed out checks to recipients of their “Giving Back – Looking Forward” 2023 grants. ECB started the “Giving Back – Looking Forward” grant program to commemorate the 75th anniversary of being in business, and has continued the grants. Any community organization within ECB’s sphere of influence is eligible to apply.

Saturday was the day for bake sales, specials at local businesses, and a visit from Santa. The young adults went from door to door, caroling and handing out treats.

The gathering Sunday at the Wild Horse schoolhouse had 27 adults, nine children and one dog. The food was great - baked ham and potatoes, side dishes, salads, and mouthwatering desserts. The peace and security of a community is ensured by the camaraderie that is fanned by these gatherings. A big “Pat-on-the-Back" to Hillary Bledsoe, Wanda Olsen, and helpers for hosting these gatherings.

The two-tier justice system has always been a problem when there is a small group of community members who feel that they are superior to the majority. A few of the legal texts that were developed to ameliorate the situation are the Hammurabi Code in 1750 BC, the Magna Carta in 1215 AD and the Constitution of the United States in 1778 AD. Somehow, those in power have continued to ignore the legal texts and used the two-tier system to maintain control. They do not worry about lying and/or spreading falsehoods, because a single grain of untruths may create questions about their opponents’ qualifications. Of course, the Fourth Estate, mainstream bobbleheads, and social media trolls carry the water for the cabals.
