DROUGHT MONITOR

Thankfully we haven’t had to discuss drought conditions this year, what a blessing the moisture has been.  There have been some severe storms here and there that have caused crop loss, which is part of the game with Mother Nature.  Abnormally and moderately dry drought intensity conditions have been designated in parts of the western slope.

CRP GENERAL SIGNUP #60 FINALIZED

Producers who had accepted offers for General Signup #60 will be receiving a copy of the approved CRP-1 contract and appendix to the contract.   The contracts will begin on October 1, 2023, producers will receive the 1st annual rental in October 2024.  It is the responsibility of the producer(s) on the CRP-1 contract to complete any required practices, maintain conservation cover and complete a contract management practice prior to the sixth year of the contract.  Producers who have questions or concerns regarding their CRP contract(s) are encouraged to contact NRCS or FSA.

Report Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) Losses

NAP provides financial assistance to you for crops that aren’t eligible for crop insurance to protect against lower yields or crops unable to be planted due to natural disasters including excessive wind and qualifying drought (includes native grass for grazing).

To receive payment, you had to purchase NAP coverage for 2023 crops and file a notice of loss the earlier of 15 days of the occurrence of the disaster or when losses become apparent or 15 days of the final harvest date.

For hand-harvested crops and certain perishable crops, you must notify FSA within 72 hours of when a loss becomes apparent.

Eligible crops must be commercially produced agricultural commodities for which crop insurance is not available, including perennial grass forage and grazing crops, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, floriculture, ornamental nursery, aquaculture, turf grass, ginseng, honey, syrup, bioenergy, and industrial crops.

For more information on NAP, contact your Kiowa County USDA Service Center at 719-438-5851 ext 2 or visit fsa.usda.gov/nap.
